Our Story

Àbákẹ́ Books & Cafe is a one-of-a-kind fusion of literary passion and distinctive coffee flavors. The name "Àbákẹ́" holds deep personal significance to the owner, rooted in her family history. During her research into her genealogy, she discovered that the name belonged to the oldest known ancestor in her family tree. In Yoruba, "Àbákẹ́" translates to "To be loved," a meaning that resonated deeply with her vision for the space.

This powerful alignment of heritage and purpose inspired the creation of a community-driven haven, one that honors both her roots and the shared connections between people. Àbákẹ́ Books & Cafe is dedicated to celebrating the rich diversity of culture, sourcing its coffee beans directly from the continent of Africa, and spotlighting authors whose works span across the diaspora.

In every cup of coffee and every page turned, Àbákẹ́ aims to create a space where love, culture, and community thrive—connecting people through the universal power of storytelling and a thoughtfully curated coffee experience.
