This pot has a unique shape, but the secret is actually in the shape. It can pour at a less inclined angle than ordinary pots. Minoware, or Mino-yaki 美濃焼 refers to Japanese pottery that was produced in Mino Province around the towns of Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kawagoei in Gifu Prefecture.
Made using the soil of Gifu Prefecture, Minoyaki is the oldest pottery found in Japan and originated in the 7th century. Kyusu (急須) are traditional Japanese teapots mainly made of fired volcanic clay of very high quality.
The word "Kyusu" simply means teapot, even though in common use Kyusu usually refers to a teapot with a side handle.
